kireek is perhaps the most popular npc in phantasy star online, representing the HUcast (or 'hunter, android, male') class. he is introduced in the offline tutorial mission 'battle training' as the player character's reluctant partner, helping them search for a rookie hunter named ash. despite kireek's arrogance and disdain for cooperation, he serves as a sort of mentor for the player, teaching them various game mechanics and ominously encouraging them to become stronger in order to impress him.
kireek is a high-ranking assassin for the underground criminal group black paper, operating under the codename 'black hound'. he wields a cursed scythe known as the soul eater, which drains the life force of the user. depending on the choices a player makes in the story, they may obtain the soul eater for themselves.
